Buying a Double Buggy From Birth
There are plenty of factors to consider when selecting the ideal double buggy from the time of birth. We spoke to Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options and age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.

What type of buggy would you like?
A double buggy is perfect for transporting two children, but not necessarily of the same age, side by side. They can also be used as prams, and they have a reclining mechanism in each seat so your children can sit or lay down in various positions. They're often spacious enough to store everything from drinks and snacks to nappies and wipes. They're usually lightweight, fold easily and small enough to fit into your car boot. If you travel a significant deal, it's important to ensure that the buggy can be easily moved with the folded wheels in your boot and taken out.
You may have seen this kind of double buggy on other mums strollers, or even in one as a kid. They're ideal for twins who are older or who want to keep up with you. They also come in various seating configurations, including 'cinema seats'. They're usually pretty easy to drive and, if you decide to go for a model with soft suspension, they can be a breeze to get rid of kerbs.
Tandem buggies are a popular option since they're easier to turn than a side-by-side. The second seat is placed behind the first and not on top. Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They're generally more expensive than side-by-sides and tandem buggies but provide plenty of flexibility and a high resale value. They are easy to steer and come with an ample storage basket. They can also handle uneven surfaces. Some models even come with an integrated ride-on board that can be used as cinema seating for your older child.
Do you have twins?
Double buggys are the most efficient method of transporting your children, regardless of whether they are twins or older siblings. There are two main types of double buggy: side-by-side buggies where your children sit together and tandem buggies in which one child is higher than the other. Both will accommodate 2 fixed seats, but side-by-side buggies tend to be narrower in width to allow for access through doors. Tandems are typically more spacious overall. They can also accommodate a carrycot as well as a toddler seats.
Do tandem double stroller have children?
At beginning having a younger sibling may seem like a lot of responsibility, particularly if you're also taking care of the baby. A double buggy may make it easier for them to feel included if you put them in a baby carrier and push the older child.
